What is Tether (USDT)

Tether is a stable-coin used by crypto-traders as a store of value. Unlike other cryptos which are volatile, a USDT is pegged 1:1 to the USD. It is used to provide liquidity for exchanges. As it is far faster than bank wires, it is also used for arbitrage. Tether uses the omni protocol, which is a second layer on the Bitcoin blockchain. Tether tokens are also created as ERC20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Tether transactions between tether.to wallets are free. Its sister token EURT is pegged 1:1 to the Euro. It was formerly known as Realcoin before being renamed in 2014. Doubts have been raised about the legal status of tether, with many prominent experts labeling it as another Liberty Reserve.
