What is Peercoin (PPC)

Peercoin is a peer to peer cryptocurrency which was founded in 2012. It is one of the oldest alt-coins. It shares a lot of source code and features with Bitcoin. There are some slight differences. It uses both proof of work and proof of stake to secure the network. Holders of the coin ("minters") and miners are rewarded. There is no cap on the total number of coins. The inflation rate is around 1% per year. All transaction fees are destroyed. Using proof of stake reduces electricity consumption. Peercoin also supports colored coins, where certain coins can be made to support stocks, bonds, etc.
